newitalioestuary.jpg (163719 bytes)Italio River Adventures Facilities

Main Camp Facilities:

In the remote wilderness,  there is still no reason to suffer.  Our facility boasts hot showers,  electricity and real beds with linen.  Why is that a boast, when we no longer look at those features as special?  Well,  in a wilderness this remote,  those accommodations are rare indeed.  Italio River Adventures is the only facility with these "modern" conveniences in the Yakutat Tongass.  Good meals,  if not gourmet,  using many local wild foods are our specialty.  Home made bread, wild strawberry jam,  Indian rice...  plus all the fresh seafood of the area will welcome you back from a hard day of fishing.

Our main overnight cabin-tent camp was built for the 2001 season,  with our locally milled,  full-dimensional,  rough-cut Sitka Spruce.  Solid half-walls sheeted with 24 foot 1" x 12"'s,  windows,  covered porches,  soft roofs (a Forest Service requirement) and all tent-buildings are connected with boardwalk.

camp_full_day.jpg (50591 bytes)We have two bunk tents that can accommodate up to four people each.  They are comfortable,  warm and cozy.  Each has a queen and three twin beds,  plus seating area with table,  oil heat and a fly-tying desk.  The mess/cook tent sits between them,  with a full kitchen and freezers.  Our bathroom has one hot shower,  toilet and washer/drier.  The Italio River Adventures camp is 25 miles from the nearest power line,  or phone and about 150 miles from the nearest traffic light.  Instead,  we have jet-boats,  or canoes awaiting you in several of the rivers,  a short 4-wheeler ride away and miles of unspoiled wilderness in all directions just waiting for you to explore.  A 11,500 watt generator and sand-point well provides us with all the utilities we need.  Italio River Adventures is a "nearly" all inclusive vacation,  where hidden fees aren't in the plan.

camp_from_bath.jpg (49451 bytes) You will need to get to Yakutat (Alaska Airlines,  or the Alaska State Ferry),  buy your sporting licenses and bring your personal gear.  After that,  everything is on us.  We charter the plane to bring you out and take you back to town.  We don't charge extra for processing your fish,  or our day trips.  We will take care of you.  All trips are fully guided,  with one guide for every 2-4 people,  unless you specifically ask to be left alone.  (Scenic Flight Tours,  Deep Sea Charters,  Sailing Excursions and Bed and Breakfast stays may be subject to additional fees and conditions,  because they are operated by other companies)
